The Ardèche is one of those areas of transition between the mountain world and the southern atmosphere. This particular geographical position gives it a variety of landscapes which has few equivalents in France! The south of the Ardèche, with its old stones, its rivers and its mountains, has therefore become an essential region for electrically assisted mountain biking. The result of several years of scouting, this "star" circuit compiles the best of the VTTAE routes in the Ardèche. We also enjoy quality accommodation, with a swimming pool, for cosy evenings and restful nights.
The garrigue and olive trees, the sound of cicadas, the pebble beaches by the rivers, the small mountain villages... The south of the Ardèche is the ideal place for a break in nature, sport and food. We stay in the area of the small town of Les Vans, whose cool streets and sunny terraces will be a perfect way to spend a day of mountain biking!
As with all our centre-based circuits, you can choose the order of the proposed loops, and you can also decide to spend a day without cycling (lazing around, canoeing, visiting the Chauvet cave... there are plenty of ideas).
The electrically assisted bike routes are designed for cyclists who are looking for rolling routes with descents mainly on wide tracks.
The entire circuit has been designed for E-MTBs. It can be done in a 3 day / 2 night version or in a 4 day / 3 night version.
Itinerary start: We will meet you on day 1 at 10am in our partner accommodation located near Les Vans (07). It is possible to leave your vehicle during your stay. The precise coordinates of the accommodation will be given to you two weeks before your departure.
Did you know that the south of the Ardèche was one of the regions with the most gold mines? Since ancient times, the Ganière valley (which today marks the boundary between the Ardèche and the Gard) has been renowned for its gold-rich alluvium. It is in this setting, on the eastern edge of the Cévennes National Park, that our first E-MTB loop takes place. A network of trails winds through the foothills of the Cévennes. We set off to discover the Ganière and Doulovy valleys (with its pretty 19th century viaduct), and soak up the fragrance of the southern vegetation.
Distance and altitude gain: approx. 35 km and 1100 m
The Ardèche is inseparable from the rivers that make its reputation: Chassezac, La Baume and the river that gave it its name. This loop is dedicated to them! Leave with your swimming costume in your rucksack... The day begins in the coolness of the Païolive wood. Below, the clear water of the Chassezac sets the tone. Along the way, we enjoy the beautiful view from the Sampzon rock, from which we can see the waters of the Ardèche mingling with those of the Chassezac. Visit of the village of Labeaume.
Distance and altitude gain: approx. 40 km and 800 m
Heading northwest for this mountain loop! With the pretty little village of Montselgues on the edge of the cornice that marks the south-eastern extremity of the Cévennes in our sights, we are now moving through a very wild landscape, punctuated here again by a few villages with character. Even though we are in the Monts d'Ardèche Regional Natural Park, some meadows with short grass give these places a Mongolian look...
Distance and altitude gain: approx. 35 km and 1200 m
THE gourmet day of our stay in Ardèche! Between Les Vans and Joyeuse, this colourful day gives pride of place to the gastronomic heritage: terraced vineyards, olive trees, chestnut trees, possible visit of an oil mill, a goat farm, a wine cellar. What is missing to complete the meal? A few more pretty villages to mark out this E-MTB ride : Payzac, Brès, Planzolles and Joyeuse!
Distance and altitude gain: approx. 40 km and 1000 m
Itinerary end: Separation on the last day at the same place as we met, between 3 and 4 pm.
Distances and altitude gain are an indication only and may vary.
