Mountain bike France

A mountain bike raid around the Lac du Bourget, the largest natural lake in France.Ref CY4M

The Lac du Bourget is a diamond set in a limestone mountain setting, teeming with fantastic single track. We know something about it, it is here that France Bike Trips has been established more than twenty years ago... not really a coincidence! We discover in turn the Bauges and the Chambotte massifs, the mountain chain of the Epine (the Spine) and finally the famous Chartreuse. Each mountain range we cross gives us an opportunity to multiply the points of view of the Mont Blanc, the Belledonnes, the combe de Savoie, with the lake in background. We alternate the nights in the mountains with those at near the lake and each stage is an opportunity to enjoy some amazing single track.

Description

Day 1: Chambéry - La Féclaz

Itinerary start: Rendezvous with the organization team is on day 1 at 9am at Chambéry SNCF railway station. On request we can book the previous nights accommodation for you in Chambéry.

The first day of this tour starts smoothly with a crossing of the historic centre of Chambery. Then we head for the Doriaz waterfall, nestled in the heart of a small valley. The second part of the ascent crosses the Saint Jean d'Arvey forest, and continues with 800 m of steady ascent until reaching the Doriaz pass. A few more pedal turns in the Charvette forest and we will soon reach our gite in the Nordic ski area of La Feclaz.

  • Distance : 40km
  • Altitude gain : 1600m
Day 2: La Féclaz - Chanaz

Early morning warm up through the small roads and tracks of the Feclaz domain. Just what we need to reach the col du Pertuiset in good shape. From here, we overlook the Lac du Bourget whose calm waters seem to invite us to take a swim. We reach the small town of Aix les Bains, which we cross before reaching the port and then the coveted beach. After this first stop on the lake, we attack the main climb of the day. We are at the northern end of the lake, and it is there that we start the last descent of the day. We finally arrive at the edge of the lake, and all that remains is to quietly reach Chanaz, a charming village on the banks of the Savière canal which links the lake and the Rhône river.

  • Distance : 50km
  • Altitude gain : 1300m
Day 3: Chanaz - Chambéry

We leave our little haven of peace almost with regret. Today we will walk along the western part of the lake. It is a very different landscape that we discover today. We are between the Savoie and the Ain, and this distinction is not only administrative! To conclude this stage in beauty, we pass close to the dent du Chat. We take a break to explain the legend of this place before plunging back to the lake. To recuperate, we return quietly on a cycle track for about ten kilometres to the heart of Chambery, the capital of Savoie.

  • Distance : 45km
  • Altitude gain : 1300m

Itinerary end: Separation at the end of the tour is in Chambéry at 3-4pm. On request we can book the following nights accommodation for you in Chambéry.

Distances and altitude gain are an indication only and may vary.

Day 4: Le Bourget du Lac - Chambéry

This morning, we offer you a gentle start. On the cycle track along the lake, we pedal in all relaxation to reach the centre of Le Bourget du Lac. Then we set off on a track that climbs steadily under the Mont du Chat to finally reach the Col de l'Epine. While this morning we were still admiring the Lac du Bourget, from now on, it's the Lac d'Aiguebelette that will be the object of all our attention. Located on the other side of the mountain of l'Épine, this smaller and quieter lake is a real paradise for rowing. We follow the ridge of the épine for a while on small single-track paths before plunging into Chambery on a succession of single-track paths, tracks and small roads.
