Description

Day 1: Lans-en-Vercors - Méaudre

Itinerary start: France Bike Trips services begin on day 1 at 10am in the village of Lans-en-Vercors. On request we can book the previous nights accommodation for you in Lans-en-Vercors.

Our Fat Bike adventure begins in the Nordic ski station of Lans-en-Vercors, where the snow covered valley contrasts with the dense green coniferous forests of the surrounding mountains. The crisp snow crunches under our tyres as we head off for our first day of riding. After a warm-up along the valley floor, we begin to gain some altitude as we climb up through the forest of Guiney. The thick forest of fir and spruce trees offers a strong Canadian feel… We then reach the top of a great singletrack descent which plunges us down into the valley of Autrans, famous as a world-class cross-country skiing resort and host to the 1968 Winter Olympics. Our route winds its way through this beautiful mountain valley to our overnight stop and the end of our first day of riding.

Distance covered: approx. 30 km / ascent: approx. 1000 m

Day 2: Méaudre - Villard-de-Lans

To begin our second day we leave the valley of Méaudre behind us and climb up through the forest of Servagnet. After a steady climb, we reach the Croix de Servagnet and a superb descent that takes us towards a broad open valley to the north of Villard-de-Lans. As we ride out of the forest we discover a beautiful and vast snow-covered landscape, with the jagged peaks of the Haut Plateaux du Vercors as a backdrop. Once again we could easily be in northern Canada! After a pause in Villard-de-Lans (mulled wine anyone?), our route takes us through a narrow landscape to the village of Corrençon-en-Vercors. We climb up through the pretty pastoral valley of Narce and on to the Col de Liorin. From there, we enter a decor of myths and legends as we join the enchanted forest of Loubière. We cross the forest in order to join the small cross country ski station of Bois-Barbu, before descending to our gite in Villard-de-Lans.

Distance covered: approx. 30 km / ascent: approx. 800 m

Day 3: Villard-de-Lans - Lans-en-Vercors

This morning we cross a series of beautiful snow-covered meadows bordered with deep forests before heading into the forest of Planta. What a great feeling it is to be able to ride through beautiful snowy landscapes on our bikes! The numerous animal tracks in the snow are a reminder of the rich fauna that exists in the Parc Naturel du Vercors, and if we’re lucky we may well see some Griffon Vultures or Alpine Ibex. Through a mix of woodland and snow-covered prairies, our route takes us on to the village of Lans-en-Vercors and the end of our Fat Bike adventure…

Distance covered: approx. 25 km / ascent: approx. 700 m

Itinerary end: France Bike Trips services end in Lans-en-Vercors at around 4pm. On request we can book the following nights accommodation for you in Lans-en-Vercors.
