The turquoise blue waters of the Verdon bring a touch of the Mediterranean to the mineral mountains of the Southern Alps. From its source not far from the Col d'Allos, between Ubaye and Mercantour, the Verdon cuts a 175km-long furrow, bounded by vertiginous cliffs and overlooked by aesthetic peaks. It is also the link between the Alps and Provence. What better thread for a great MTB crosing? We set off from Barcelonnette or the Col d'Allos and pedal down to the source of the Verdon. This is followed by some magnificent, fun mountain sections, before slipping into the gentle Provençal villages as the days go by. The larch trees gradually give way to lavender fields, the marmots give way to cicadas... What remains unchanged is the pleasure of riding on a superb itinerary, with some great single track - the fuel of the rider! The route is specially adapted to e-MTB use: the stages are designed to fit the average battery autonomy, there are no hike-a-bike portions, and bike pushing is limited to a minimum.
