A 7 day point to point itinerary that takes in the best of northern Brittany! A journey that takes us due west, from Paimpol to Brest, from the Trégor to the Leon. We take in the Pink Granite Coast, considered one of most beautiful coastlines in France, as well as the Chaos de Ploumanac'h, a chaotic cluster of granite boulders that take on a beautiful pink orange hue as the sun sets on the horizon. The undulating nature of the Breton countryside isn't to be underestimated! The gear ratios steadily drop as we approach the famous Monts d'Arrée, where the Col de Trédudon offers us a superb panoramic view, but forces us to forget our preconceived ideas about Brittany being flat… A superb descent towards Brest gives us the impression of arriving at the edge of the world…
Itinerary start: France Bike Trips services begin on day 1 at 1pm at Paimpol SNCF railway station.
On request we can book the previous night's accommodation for you in Paimpol.
Rendezvous in Paimpol, probably the most dynamic port on the Côtes d'Armor, and a beautiful postcard image of the wild Brittany that we are set to discover over the next 7 days. A fairly gentle first day and an opportunity to make any last minute adjustments to the bikes... We head off to discover the Goelo that runs east of Paimpol to Trieux. Night in a hotel in Paimpol.
Distance covered: approx. 70 km / ascent: approx. 790 m
Our first itinerant stage and time to discover the beautiful Breton coastline! The contrasting blue sea and pink rocky coast offer a surprising spectacle for a good ten kilometres of the ride… before we join Port Blanc and head inland to discover the pretty villages of Guerlesquin and Tréguier. The architecture and history of the two villages add a welcome cultural element to our day!
Distance covered:
From Perros Guirec, capital of the Pink Granite Coast, we discover the geological wonders of Ploumanac'h, before exploring the coastline to the village of Trébeurden. After Lannion, an excursion inland takes us to the village of Belle-Île en Terre. Surrounded by forests and small valleys, the site is full of great cycling roads, used each year during the "la Pierre Le Biguau" cycle race. A passage along the shingle beaches of Saint Michel mark the end of our day.
Distance covered:
We continue along the coastal road of the Cote de Bruyère before entering the Baie de Morlaix. From there, our route heads south along a winding road that hugs the valley floor to the foot of the one of the cols of the Monts d'Arrée. We climb the 361 metre Col de Trédudon, before tackling the Col de Trévezel. A superb descent takes us down to the sea…
Distance covered:
After crossing a few small valleys we reach the port of Roscoff, where Brittany finally levels out! No doubt a relief for some amongst us! The terrain may be flatter, but the landscapes are no less beautiful as we follow the coast westward…
Distance covered:
Today we head towards the edge of the World! Or at least the edge of Europe… A stage that takes us along the western coast of Finistere to the Pointe Saint Mathieu. A spectacular stage that leads us to our overnight stop in the town of Brest.
Distance covered:
For the fittest, the bravest, or simply the most passionate cyclists in the group, there's a final stage that takes in small country lanes along the Elorn River, offering the opportunity to get a few final kilometres in before the end of our tour...
Distance covered: approx. 60 km / ascent: approx. 500 m
Itinerary end: France Bike Trips services end at around 3pm on day 7 at Brest SNCF railway station.
Distances and altitude gain are an indication only and may vary.
On request we can book the following night's accommodation for you in Brest.
